I was chatting with a much younger person today. We both grew up in Downey, and we were talking about historical sites (that is, the old McDonald's). He asked me what other buildings still remain from my childhood. Outside of individual homes like the one above, I couldn't immediately think of any. Downey Community Hospital, Wonder Bowl, Johnie's Broiler, and many others—they're mostly gone. Even the scene above shows the constant change that is life in our city.
