When the going gets tough, the tough go to the beach. So when my daughter and I had a difficult and stressful day this week, we took advantage of our proximity to the southern California beaches and headed off for an afternoon at the Seal Beach pier.
Whether it is the waves pounding on the pilings over and over, or the peace of the empty pier stretching out to the horizon, the ocean makes even a hard day better.
And a little bit of play doesn't hurt, either.
When anxious, uneasy and bad thoughts come, I go to the sea, and the sea drowns them out with its great wide sounds, cleanses me with its noise, and imposes a rhythm upon everything in me that is bewildered and confused.
~ Rainer Maria Rilke
Seal Beach was my favorite when I lived in Southern California. Our north Coast beaches are much different -- less sand and more rocky points. We also have elephant seals at this time of year.
ReplyDeleteI love your northern California beaches! After I gave up on ever getting a tan, sand didn't mean as much to me, and I love the ruggedness of the northern California coast.
