This is the "R" building, one of the oldest remaining buildings at Downey High School.
Founded in 1901, the school started with 45 students. In 1903, the first building at Second and Church Streets, where Walker Hall now stands, was formed. In 1926, that building was condemned as a fire hazard and torn down. In 1929-1930, this building was built for junior high school students.
Downey High now has 4,150 students and is one of two high schools in Downey.
