This is our neighborhood's second annual block party to celebrate the 4th of July. We have been planning this celebration for several months and it was well worth it.

This is Hyro, one of the spearheads of the celebration. All of the neighbors contributed with food, fireworks, shade covers, electricity, and water (for the water-filled bouncers for the kids).

The day was filled with food, chatting with friends, eating, a pinata, a birthday cake, and finding shade.

Downey does allow "safe and sane" fireworks within the city limits, while some other surrounding cities, because of their proximity to the fire-prone foothills, do not.
How did you celebrate the fourth of July?
