At the nativity scene at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Mary and Joseph look down on the baby Jesus. There has been only one Christmas -- the rest are anniversaries.

The baby wasn't actually there last night when I took these pictures. Is that Catholic tradition? Or just protection against vandalism?
Yes, I think it's traditional in Catholic/orthodox areas--the creche is set out with everyone there except the baby, who arrives on the night of the 24th.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they bring the baby out during mass? That part I don't know. . . .
Mary Ann, thanks for the info. I'll have to figure out how to get by there next Christmas Eve. It's such a lovely setting, I'd like to see it completed.
