Porto's Bakery is coming soon
Earlier this week as I wandered around downtown Downey, I stopped at the construction site of the new Porto's Bakery, where work started last November 25. While I took pictures, Aham, who introduced himself as a worker at the site, filled me in on the details. I asked him if there would be outdoor seating, and he said yes. (Yay!) He thinks they'll be ready to open in May. And he invited me to come back regularly to take pictures of their progress. (If I come by on a Tuesday, I can even meet the boss.) I promised I'd be back!
Meanwhile, I'll buy my Porto's baked goods at the Porto's booth at the Downey Farmer's Market.

can i just tell you? my dear friends, i love portos with such an extreme passion. the only two in exsistence is in burbank and glendale and its really really bomb im so excited you guys are getting it out there! the fam that owns it is super sweet.

ReplyDeleteI didn't know about the Porto's in Downey until a friend mentioned it. Wonderful news! I'm a Valley resident who occasionally brings goodies from Porto's to my mom in Pico Rivera...now she'll be able to buy those fruit tarts herself!

ReplyDeleteWhy does Porto's remind me of Wal-Mart? Portos like Wal-Mart is taking over small family owned bussinesses. Poor Madrazo's.
Portos is nothing like walmart. This is a quality cuban business. I just hope the bring to downey sit down dining and not just sandwiches and pastries. I'm cuban born and raised. I know good cuban pastries and sanwiches and velive me portos is the real deal.
ReplyDeleteI'm worried about Tropicana Bakery too. Portos is great and all, but a little overrated. The pastries at Tropicana remind me of the ones I used to get in Hialeah, FL. Not as great as when they first opened, but I guess that's because of the economic downsizing. For now, I'm hoping to stay loyal to Tropicana. The one thing that I have to get Porto's credit for is that they move people in and out fast, unlike Tropicana. Although, Tropicana has gotten better at that.
ReplyDeletePorto's is not a little overrated they are everything you hear about and more. I can not say enough about them, they are a welcome asset in any community.
ReplyDeletePorto's is also a family owned business. It's great that they are branching out. They are not opening a restaurant everywhere fast, this is only their 3rd since '76. Therefore, you can't compare it to a Walmart. Nough said.
